SafeWork SA: Safety watchdog at centre of senior staff ‘bullying investigation’

An article in The Advertiser reveals that the safety watchdog responsible for investigating government bullying and workplace accidents is at the centre of a misconduct inquiry that has left “bullied” staff on stress leave.  Read more here.

An interesting article on the Lawyers Weekly website about workplace stress and its impact on the rate of depression and anxiety in addition to a number of serious physical illnesses. The article notes "We have simply pushed the human system way beyond its design specs and, like anything else stressed beyond endurance, it is breaking."  Read article here.

The Australian National University (ANU) is experiencing an institutional crisis around bullying, gender discrimination and exploitation against staff. Staff and students within the ANU’s school of politics and international relations have complained of a toxic culture of bullying, an exodus of staff and students and high levels of dysfunction. The number of grievances has been steadily increasing with no concrete response by ANU.  See the following news stories:

When the current government proposed that employees should not  be able to approach the Fair Work Commission directly with an anti-bullying claim, and that these claims be directed firstly through an additional 'layer' (presumably the various State and Territory workplace regulators)...Know Bull! was rather concerned. Simply because for some years, Know Bull! has been aware that workplace bullying exists within some of these State and Territory Workplace Regulators.
